God

"The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring'" (Acts 17:24-28).

Who is God? Is there even a God? Is there one God, or are there many gods? These are questions that many have asked, including those Athenians to whom Paul spoke so many years ago. What answers can we discover?

We can find no undeniable "proof" in a scientific sense for the existence of God-- then again, there exists no scientific "proof" that anyone has ever really existed. We cannot expect to find our answers to the question of the existence God through science.

We can find God's hand present in His act of creation, as Paul establishes in Acts 17:24 and Romans 1:20-21. We look around and find the world to be wonderfully interdependent and complex, and the idea that everything came to be through chance chemical reactions and genetic mutations becomes quite difficult to swallow. The creation presents sufficient reason to believe that there was a higher power behind its existence.

He who creates has power over his creation; it should come as no surprise to us to discover, therefore, that this God is Lord over heaven and earth (Acts 17:24). He is portrayed not as some absentee landlord or as One not concerned about His creation. He desires His creation to seek Him, to learn of Him, and to serve Him (Acts 17:27, Hebrews 11:6).

Since this God has created all things without our assistance, He does not actually need anything from us so that He can continue to live or to exist. God has no need of us, yet we have need of God (Acts 17:25-26)! It is in Him that we "live, and move, and have our being," as it is written (Acts 17:28).

Yes, there is a God, and God is one (Deuteronomy 6:4). God is Spirit, and He has created man in His image, for man has a soul (John 4:24, Genesis 1:26-27). God has revealed many truths regarding Himself and His intentions for mankind through His Son Jesus Christ, and the Word which was spoken through them and others in the Bible (John 1:18, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21). If we desire to truly live, and to live abundantly, we must seek God and His will. Please join us as we associate with God and strive to obtain eternal life in the name of His Son (1 John 1:1-7)!

God in Scripture

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God; the LORD is one" (Deuteronomy 6:4).

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," saith the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse: because that, knowing God, they glorified him not as God, neither gave thanks; but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened (Romans 1:20-21).

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:23-24).

And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him (Hebrews 11:6).
